El Cajon is one of the oldest cities in San Diego county with records going back nearly 200 years. The city is known as “the box” because it is surrounded on all sides by mountains that will often trap in some high east county temperatures. El Cajon will always be remembered as the city where the owner “grew up”. The last two years of elementary were spent at Chase followed by three years at Emerald Jr High and then a couple years at both Valhalla and Grossmont High Schools. El Cajon is where I met my amazing wife and business partner of 12 years even though we would not start dating for another 10+ years after we first met in high school. In El Cajon I fostered my love of dirt bikes and off roading and spent many afternoons after school riding through the hills of Proctor Valley. El Cajon is also where I found my love of baseball and while I was never a top athlete El Cajon is the home of many former MLB Pros from the Boone family (Aaron, Bob and Bret) to another former Padre Marcus Giles. El Cajon was also home to many racing professionals including Ricky Johnson and 7-time Nascar Champion Jimmie Johnson. Downtown El Cajon has recently gone through a redevelopment and renovation period that has left the city more attractive than ever. El Cajon’s downtown district is host to the annual Mother Goose Parade that has been held every Sunday before Thanksgiving for the last 72 years and is the largest parade put on in the county of San Diego. Also found in El Cajon is the oldest airport in San Diego county, Gillespie field; here you can find smaller planes coming and going all day, they have a flight school if you want to get your pilots license and also hold an annual airshow for the pubic.
